Guests at the Sofitel Paris Baltimore Hotel are greeted by an informative and interactive welcome wall at the hotel lobby. Experience design studio Float4 utilized a Realmotion™ system to power the immersive video wall, and manage the customizable, dynamic content that it showcases. The Sofitel Paris Baltimore uses its wall as a tool for guests to customize and tailor their visit, using recommendations from local advisories and personal tips from the hotel staff.

The Realmotion™ system installed at the Sofitel Paris Baltimore hotel predominantly generates real-time content at 6K resolution, via its pixel mapping features.

There were three main aspects to the Realmotion™ system: design, hosting, and monitoring. The Realmotion™ Designer module empowers users to create, collaborate and deploy content utilizing real-time content editing, generation and compositing software. The Realmotion™ Servers host, generate, connect and enable real-time content manipulation, playback, and delivery. The Realmotion™ Admin module provides online system monitoring, information flow, and management.

The wall features interactive capsules that respond to a guest’s movements, a photo booth, and a ‘virtual concierge’ that allows guests to explore the sites they want to see in Paris. Hotel staff can log on to the content management system and help create a path through Paris that lasts two hours, based on the guest’s interests. The path can be downloaded to the guest’s smartphone for added convenience.

Realmotion™’s ability to enable real-time compositing allowed for the piece to layer multiple types of media (i.e.: HTML5 for interfaces, real-time graphics and high-resolution video for background elements).

Having layered interactive technology made it possible for producers and integrators to combine both motion and multi-touch functionality, creating a truly progressive interactive experience. These layers included information that was provided by the hotel staff and particles submitted by the hotel guests.

The custom content management system enabled the hotel staff to customize many aspects of the wall’s content including the creation of customized itineraries through Paris that can be downloaded on to guests’ mobile phones. A selfie station allows visitors to take pictures and share them with friends directly or more broadly on social media platforms. Live feeds from cameras or television can be streamed onto the wall during special events.
